Conference notes, part 2
Tuesday, October 30, 2007 by level1librarian
After lunch, I listened to a presentation on The Library 2.0 Process Toolkit. I’m sorry to say this talk was too rambling. Dean Frey (Director, Red Deer Public Library, Alberta, Canada) had a very important point, though: involving the community, and not just on lip-service level. Their PDD program (Persons with Developmental Disabilities) sounds especially impressive. Hear hear!
As I settled down for the What’s New with Federated Search talk, I lucked out and found an outlet on the floor. Parked my bu– eh, beautiful new laptop right next to it. Unfortunately the wi-fi access doesn’t extend to this room (only the hotel next door). *sigh*
Frank Cervone (Assistant University Librarian for Information Technology, Northwestern University) & Jeff Wisniewski (Web Services Librarian, University of Pittsburgh) tag-teamed their talk admirably. The animated talk gave a well-balanced dosage of info. Liked taking electronic notes!
Frank Cervone (from previous presentation) starred in Cool Tools for Library Webmasters with Darlene Fichter (University of Saskatchewan Library). Handwritten notes to save my laptop battery.
I wrapped my day with Web Design on a Dime by Sarah Houghton-Jan (soon-to-be Senior Librarian for Digital Futures, San Jose Public Library). She treated us to a neat, if a little too hurried list of tips. Nice ending for my first conference day.
