Conference notes, part 4

During lunch break, I took a stroll to the Fisherman’s Wharf and back. There were several sea lions (I think) basking on the buoys, making the most incredible racket. I’ve never experienced anything like that before.
Back to the conference. How to Lose Your New Tech Librarians wasn’t really up my alley, but I figured I could get some tips for my upcoming job hunt. Plus, I got to listen to Michael Stephens (Assistant Professor, Dominican University, GSLIS), Sarah Houghton-Jan (again), and Jenny Benevento (Associated Press).
Screencasting and E-Learning on a Shoestring by Karen Coombs (Head of Library Web Services, University of Houston Libraries) & Michelle Boule (Social Sciences Librarian, University of Houston Libraries) was neat. I parked next to an outlet again, which was a great relief. (I did hunt down a freebie notepad earlier, so it wouldn’t have been critical, but it does mean fiddling with notes only once.) My contact to podcasting and screencasting so far is extremely limited, but this presentation certainly fanned the flames of curiosity.
The last session before dinner was Extending Your Reach: E-Training for an Entire State! by Evette Atkin (Network Librarian & Training Consultant, Michigan Library Consortium) and Kathy Petlewski (Electronic Resources Librarian, Plymouth District Library). Again, not exactly for my current needs – I haven’t even graduated yet – but I got ideas for the future. It was interesting to note that the Moodle e-training courses on the consortium’s Michigan Electronic Library databases did not sound terribly complicated. I’d better write a separate entry about that.
