A report in Campus Technology recaps the 2008 Horizon Report [pdf] of six key technology areas that will likely have a major influence on education:
“Mobile broadband, collaborative Web technologies, and mashups will all significantly impact education over the next five years, along with “grassroots” video, collective intelligence, and “social operating systems.””

Many libraries already take advantage or experiment with them. That’s the right thing to do, if we want to stay current or ahead of the curve. More important, however, is how well we’re able to sustain any services we implement. It’s very easy to introduce a new thing-a-majick. The real challenge, in my experience, is keeping it going once the excitement has passed. I like the quote from Seth Godin in a past blog entry by Louise Berry at Darien Library:
“To raise someone’s expectations then not fulfill them is worse than mediocrity”
