Europeana is a portal-in-progress for European cultural heritage, with a planned launch in November 2008. For now, you can see the quick video intro (from the current main page) or the lengthy site demo. More information is available in the press release:
“Van Gogh’s down at heel boots were the first thing to appear on the test website of the European digital library today. The website, branded Europeana, will break new ground by bringing together millions of digitised resources from Europe’s archives, museums, libraries and audio visual collections through a single portal.” [original emphasis]
Theatrum Catalogorum, put together by people from the Early Modern Studies Group at Harvard University, is another fancy source for European studies:
“In its first edition, it collates library catalogs from every major European country. In future editions, it will expand to include the Americas.”
Both are pretty exciting. Being a visual learner, I especially like some of Europeana’s features.
